Written, directed, produced, and filmed by Gregory Colbert, it is a poetic field study that depicts the world not as it is, but as it might be—a world in which the natural and artificial boundaries separating humans from other species do not exist. The viewing experience is one of wonder and contemplation, serenity, and hope.

Edited by two-time Oscar-winner Pietro Scalia; narrated by actors Laurence Fishburne (English), Enrique Roche (Spanish), and Ken Watanabe (Japanese). Musical collaborators include Michael Brook, David Darling, Heiner Goebbels, Lisa Gerrard, Lukas Foss, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Djivan Gasparyan.

In 2003, after The Earth seen from the Sky, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, with Sybille d’Orgeval and Baptiste Rouget-Luchaire, launched the 7 billion Others project: What have you learnt from your parents? What do you want to pass on to your children? What difficult circumstances have you been through? What does love mean to you?

Forty-five questions that help us to find out what separates and what unites us. These portraits of humanity today are accessible on this website. The heart of the project, which is to show everything that unites us, links us and differentiates us, is found in the films which include the topics discussed during these thousands of hours of interviews.

These testimonies are also presented during exhibitions in France and around the world (Belgium, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Russia …), and on other media such as book, DVD or on TV.

YANN ARTHUS-BERTRAND’S EDITORIAL

Everything began with a helicopter breakdown in Mali. While I was waiting for the pilot, I spent a whole day talking with one of the villagers. He spoke to me about his daily life, his hopes and fears: his sole ambition was to feed his children. I suddenly found myself plunged into the most elemental of concerns. He looked me straight in the eyes, uncomplaining, asking for nothing, expressing no resentment or ill will.

Later, I dreamt of understanding their words, of feeling what linked us. Because, from up there, the Earth looks like an immense area to be shared. But as soon as I landed, problems emerged. I found myself confronted by inflexible bureaucracy and barriers laid down by men, symbols of the difficulty we have in living together.

We live in amazing times. Everything moves at a crazy pace. I’m sixty-five years old, and when I think about how my parents lived, it seems scarcely believable. Today, we have at our disposal extraordinary tools for communication: we can see everything, know everything. The quantity of information in circulation has never been greater. All of that is very positive. The irony is that at the same time we still know very little about our neighbours.

Now, however, the only possible response is to make a move towards the other person, to understand them. For in struggles to come, whether it is the struggle against poverty or climate change, we cannot act on our own. The times in which one could think only of oneself or of one’s own small community are over. From now on, we cannot ignore what it is that links us and the responsibilities that this implies.

There are more than seven billion of us on Earth, and there will be no sustainable development if we cannot manage to live together. That is why 7 billion Others is so important to me. I believe in it because it concerns all of us and because it encourages us to take action. I hope that each one of us will want to reach out and make these encounters, to listen to other people and to contribute to the life of 7 billion Others by adding our own experiences and expressing our desire to live together.

The MIDWAY film project is a powerful visual journey into the heart of an astonishingly symbolic environmental tragedy. On one of the remotest islands on our planet, tens of thousands of baby albatrosses lie dead on the ground, their bodies filled with plastic from the Pacific Garbage Patch. Returning to the island over several years, the team is witnessing the cycles of life and death of these birds as a multi-layered metaphor for our times. With photographer Chris Jordan as a guide, we walk through the fire of horror and grief, facing the immensity of this tragedy—and our own complicity—head on. And in this process, we find an unexpected route to a transformational experience of beauty, acceptance, and understanding.

The story is framed in the vividly gorgeous language of state-of-the-art high-definition digital cinematography, surrounded by millions of live birds in one of the world’s most beautiful natural sanctuaries. The viewer will experience stunning juxtapositions of beauty and horror, destruction and renewal, grief and joy, birth and death, coming out the other side with their heart broken open and their worldview shifted. Stepping outside the stylistic templates of traditional environmental or documentary films, MIDWAY will take viewers on a guided tour into the depths of their own spirits, delivering a profound message of reverence and love that is already reaching an audience of tens of millions of people around the world.

A very short film about the beauty and importance of Mangrove Forests. This film is shot entirely in north Bimini, Bahamas. Every piece of footage was shot in an area that is currently threatened. The people of the island are working very hard to have the area turned into a marine protected area. The mangroves of north Bimini protect the island from hurricanes and provide the abundance of ocean life that the islanders depend on for tourism and food. Fisherman, conservationists, life long islanders and scientists all agree that the mangroves of Bimini need to be protected. Please share this video and help people learn about this little known type for forest.

I will not tell you whose voice over leads us through three extreme situations that

Voice Over is an awarded short film. It won the award to the Best Project at Gijon International Film Festival 2010 and Almeria en Corto, even before shooting. Besides, Canal Plus bough the rights also before start shooting. After the short was made, it won 3 awards in the 3 first film festivals where it has compete: Gijon and Monaco International Film Festival.

The short film has been directed by Martin Rosete, one of the most talented young Spanish directors. Martin has won more that 100 awards with his previous films (Revolution, Basket Bronx,…), but Voice Over is a big step in his career, showing that he is called to direct bigger projects.
Luiso Berdejo; the lad who used to direct shortfilms in Spain and now he directs Kevin Costner-starred movies in Hollywood pens the script. He is one of the finest suspense writers in the industry and has entrusted to Martin Rosete one of the best
short stories he has written. Ever.
To be able to prduct such an ambitious project like this, 4 different production companies had to partner. All of them have a long and succesful career in the film industry in Spain: Koldo Zuazua from Kowalski Films; Sebastian Alvarez from Volcano Films; Manuel Calvo from Encanta Films and The Rosete Brothers from Kamel Films. The short film has been shot in Tenerife and Almeria, Spain. It got the finantial support of Canary Government, Tenerife Film Commision, Andalucia Government, and also, Voice Over completed its budget thanks to Kickstarter, probably the biggets crowdfunding website in the US.
Voice Over opened in Los Angeles in January 2012, in order to get the Academy Award Certificate. It will be distributed to more than 1.000 film festivals worldwide, thanks to the support of Marvin & Wayne, our Associate Distributors.

The Butterfly Effect is a short CG animated film Passion Pictures has made in partnership with Unity, the games engine developers using the new Unity 4.0 3D software. The film was written and directed by Dan Sumich and is a homage to the classic action films from the 1970s through to the 1990s, with a soundtrack by the legendary heavy metal vocalist Steve Grimmett. An ordinary looking guy wakes up one morning feeling the worse for wear and realises he’s run out of milk. As he drags himself out of the house to go and buy some, an extraordinary sequence of events draws him into a journey of mayhem on the streets of San Francisco.
